Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a significant global public health issue, affecting more than 8.5 billion people. If not intervened in time, kidney disease may progress to renal failure, leading to serious complications and even death. It is predicted that by 2040, CKD will become the fifth leading cause of shortened life expectancy worldwide.

The second Thursday of March each year is defined as World Kidney Day (WKD). Related activities are carried out all over the world on this day, with the aim of raising people's awareness of kidney diseases and attaching importance to the early detection and prevention of chronic kidney diseases. March 13th of this year marks the 20th World Kidney Day, with the theme "Are Your Kidneys Okay?" "Early check-ups keep you healthy." The Nephrology Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society actively responds to the call of the "Healthy China 2030" planning program. Taking World Kidney Day as an opportunity, it advocates that its members carry out various public welfare activities such as free medical consultations, science popularization and education, and kidney patient associations across the country based on their own conditions, centering on the theme. President Chen Limeng introduced, "With the continuous development of population aging in our country, the incidence of kidney diseases in the elderly is gradually increasing." Due to multiple diseases, the elderly have lesions in drug reactions and drug metabolic dynamics, and often have frailty and geriatric syndromes, which leads to the complexity and particularity of the treatment of geriatric nephropathy. Therefore, providing good supportive treatment, early diagnosis and early treatment, reducing the suffering of patients and their families, and improving the quality of life are the main goals of treating kidney diseases in the elderly. The Nephrology Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society aims to guide the public to care about and attach importance to the kidney health of the elderly through various public welfare activities, enhance the awareness of prevention and treatment of kidney diseases among the elderly, and improve the quality of life of the elderly.
