The General Election Meeting of the Otolaryngology Branch of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics was successfully held
On September 29, 2024, on the occasion of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the motherland throughout the country, the Ear Science Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society successfully held the second committee election conference through a combination of online and offline methods. Xu Xiaodong, Vice president and Secretary-General of the Chinese Geriatric Society, and Zhao Inheritance, deputy Secretary-General, attended the meeting. According to the constitution of the society and the succession procedure, a new committee and leadership were elected, and Professor Wang Qiuju of the PLA General Hospital was elected as the president of the second committee of the Ear Science Branch, marking that the branch has entered a new stage of development.
The meeting began with Xu Xiaodong, vice president and secretary general of the Chinese Geriatric Society, reading the approval of the Chinese Geriatric Society's Ear Science Branch for preparing for the change of term. She said that the Otoscience Branch plays a crucial role in promoting the cause of elderly hearing health, and as an important branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society, it will focus on improving the hearing health of the elderly in the country. The General Assembly aims to strengthen the organizational construction of the Branch, elect a professional authoritative and representative leadership, and lay a solid foundation for the future development of the branch.
Wang Dayong of the Preparatory Committee for the change of the ear Science Branch made a detailed report on the preparatory work for the change of the ear science Branch. It was introduced that since June 2024, the Otology Branch has held many meetings and discussions on the transition, covering key issues such as the scale of the new committee, the selection method of members and Standing Committee candidates, and the time, place and form of the transition meeting. The Branch attaches great importance to regional and field representation in this transition. Ensure that the new leadership team not only has excellent academic attainments in professional technology, but also can fully represent the elderly hearing health workers across the country and contribute to the diverse development of the chapter.

According to the constitution of the Chinese Geriatric Society, the second committee and the leading team were elected in accordance with the prescribed procedures. Prof. Wang Qiuju of PLA General Hospital was elected as the Chairman of the 2nd Committee of Otoscience Branch, Prof. Yu Sheng (Executive), Prof. Li Huawei, Prof. Wang Haibo, Prof. Sun Jingwu, Prof. Gong Shusheng, Prof. Feng Yong, Prof. Hu Guohua, Prof. Ma Ruixia, Prof. Wang Zhaoyan, Prof. Guan Guofang and Prof. Jiang Hongqun were elected as Vice chairmen, and Prof. Wang Dayong was nominated as the Director-General. Under the leadership of Professor Wang Qiuju, the new committee will open up the cause of geriatric ear science and promote the vigorous development of the cause of geriatric hearing health in China.
Professor Wang Qiuju, the elected president, first thanked the leadership of the previous committee and the hard work of all members, and said that he would lead the new committee to inherit the fine tradition and promote the research on hearing health for the elderly, the promotion of appropriate technologies and the popularization of science and technology. In particular, she mentioned that the National Health Commission's "Action for the Promotion of Hearing Health in the Elderly (2024-2027)" released in June 2024 provides the direction for the future work of the Otologists Branch. Under the leadership of the Chinese Geriatric Society, the Branch will actively implement this action, promote the early screening and intervention of elderly hearing health, and improve the level of hearing health services for elderly groups. President Wang Qiuju said that the Ear Science Branch will continue to be committed to the development of the cause of hearing health for the elderly, unite as one, give play to their respective professional strengths, and make greater contributions to the development of ear science for the elderly and the realization of healthy aging.
