The winter of the year is the peak of abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture, especially for some elderly patients with high blood pressure who do not know they have abdominal aortic aneurysm, sudden rupture can be life-threatening. In the past ten years, President Zhao Jichun has organized and led the branch team and the Vascular Surgery Department of West China Hospital to hold a series of activities of large-scale free abdominal aortic aneurysm screening and elderly vascular disease education every year. By screening more than 5,600 people over 65 years of age, the incidence of the disease was found to be as high as 5%. This year, President Zhao Jichun successfully declared and was selected into the National Health Appropriate Technology Promotion Database for abdominal aortic aneurysm intelligent ultrasound screening.

The main target of this screening free clinic is older people over 65 years old, especially those who have a long-term history of smoking, heart disease, high blood pressure or other cardiovascular diseases, and need to check the abdominal aorta. Under the leadership of President Zhao Jichun, 12 experts from the Department of vascular surgery, ultrasound medicine, outpatient department and day Surgery Center of Sichuan West China Hospital, together with medical staff from Sichuan Architectural Hospital, went to primary hospitals and communities. It has carried out science popularization and screening of common vascular diseases in the elderly, including abdominal aortic aneurysm screening, lower limb venous thromboembolism, chronic vascular wound management, lower limb artery ischemia and elderly ischemic stroke prevention and treatment, and also provided free consultation services for the elderly. A total of 102 elderly people participated in the activity, and the activity was unanimously praised by the majority of elderly people, who expressed the hope that there will be more such free diagnosis and education activities in the future.
An 87-year-old patient with abdominal aortic aneurysm with a tumor diameter of 6.8cm was found at the free clinic accompanied by his family. After being treated by Professor Zhao Jicun, the patient was transferred from Jianzhu Hospital to West China Hospital of Sichuan Province for emergency treatment through the green channel of abdominal aortic aneurysm, considering that the tumor had a high risk of rupture. At the free clinic, old patients who had previously found abdominal aortic aneurysmal dilatation and had not met the surgical indication came to participate.
In this free clinic screening, color ultrasound identified four patients with new abdominal aortic aneurysms and two patients with extended abdominal aortic aneurysms requiring surgical treatment. In addition, more patients with common carotid and lower limb artery diseases, venous thrombosis and other peripheral vascular diseases were screened. Experts have patiently provided prevention and treatment guidance for patients, and hope that with the cooperation of their families, patients can get better timely and effective management and improve the quality of life. The event was a complete success.
