On the morning of March 27, 2025, the first event of the "Yue Du Yue Xiu" community elderly reading station science popularization and health activity, jointly organized by the Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, the Civil Affairs Bureau of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, the Beijing Sub-district Office of Yuexiu District and other parties, was successfully held at the Guangfu Cultural Center of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, titled "Spring Food Therapy and Health Preservation and the Inheritance of Cantonese Cuisine Culture". The Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics has always regarded enhancing the health literacy of the elderly and promoting healthy aging as its core mission. This event is an important measure to pilot the construction of the "Elderly Health Reading Demonstration Zone" in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City. It aims to explore a new community elderly care model of "integrating medical care and elderly care, and integrating culture and education" by integrating medical resources, cultural resources and social forces. The event, with the core model of "expert-led reading + interactive experience + cultural inheritance", attracted over 30 elderly people from the community to participate. Through popularizing spring health preservation knowledge and promoting healthy diet culture, they felt the charm of traditional culture and helped the elderly group improve their health literacy.

Vice President Li Li of the Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics said in her speech, "Under the background of an aging society, how to integrate health services into community life scenarios has been a long-term concern of the society." The "Yue Du Yue Xiu" project has deeply integrated health services with Cantonese culture through expert-led reading, science popularization and study Tours, and cultural experiences, providing a replicable practical model for elderly health services in communities across the country.

At the event site, the Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Society of Geriatrics specially invited Sun Yan, an associate chief physician of traditional Chinese medicine from Yuexiu District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to give a vivid health science popularization on topics such as "Key Points of Spring Health Preservation", "Classic Recipes of Cantonese Food Therapy", and "Dietary Adjustment for Common Chronic Diseases". Doctor Sun Yan, in combination with traditional Chinese medical classics such as the "Huangdi Neijing", elaborated on the scientific connotations of dietary therapy and health preservation in a simple and understandable way. The elders all expressed, "Before, we only knew 'what to eat', but now we understand 'why to eat'. Such popular science is so practical!" To enhance interactivity and participation, the event specially set up a tasting session of health-preserving tea beverages. While enjoying spring health-preserving tea beverages such as chrysanthemum and wolfberry tea, the elderly also watched short videos about Cantonese cuisine culture, directly experiencing the unique charm of traditional food therapy culture.

The elderly who participated in the event all expressed that the expert's explanations were easy to understand, and the health-preserving tea had a refreshing taste. They not only learned health knowledge but also relived the culinary culture of Cantonese cuisine. An elder said excitedly, "Such activities are very practical and have given me a deeper understanding of health preservation in spring." It is hoped that more such activities can be held in the future so that we can continue to learn and be well cared for in our old age.

This event fully leverages the expert think tank advantages of the Public Health Service Branch of the Chinese Geriatrics Society to provide professional support for the event. Grassroots units rely on community resources to ensure that services can be effectively implemented. This "national-level academic society + local government + grassroots community" linkage model has effectively promoted the downward flow of high-quality medical resources and contributed to the construction of a "15-minute health and elderly care service circle".

In the future, the branch will continue to cooperate with multiple parties to carry out the "Yue Du Yue Xiu" community elderly reading station science popularization and health activities in a continuous and in-depth manner. With reading as a bond, it will integrate health science popularization and cultural inheritance to help the elderly achieve "learning in old age, medical care in old age, and happiness in old age". By constantly enriching the content and form of activities, new vitality is injected into the community elderly care cause.
