October 11, 2024 is the Chinese traditional Double Ninth Festival, which coincides with the "World Peace and Palliative Care Day" on the second Saturday of October every year. This year, October 12 is the World Peace and Palliative Care Day 2024. The theme is: Ten Years Since the Resolution:How are we doing? Ten Years since the Resolution:How are We Doing? . In order to carry forward the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation of "respecting the elderly, respecting the elderly, loving the elderly, and helping the elderly", help protect the physical and mental health of elderly patients, but also to arouse more people's awareness of palliative care, jointly pay attention to the care needs of end-stage patients, and improve the quality of life of end-stage patients. Sponsored by the Palliative Medicine Branch of Chinese Geriatric Society, co-organized by the Palliative Medicine Branch of Jiangsu Anti-Aging Society and undertaken by the Geriatric Medicine Department of Jiangsu People's Hospital (the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University), the 2024 World Palliative Care Day and Double Ninth Festival Free Clinic activity was successfully held in Nanjing.
The event was held at 10:00 am in the hall of the 3rd floor of the Geriatric Medicine Department of Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital, presided over by Ms. Fan Yunxia, head nurse of the University. In his opening speech, Professor Zhan Yiyang, president of the Palliative Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society, stressed that palliative care has a significant impact on improving the quality of life of elderly patients, which will greatly enhance the public's understanding of palliative care and help eliminate relevant misunderstandings and prejudices. He hopes to provide valuable health advice and practical help for elderly patients through this activity, reflect the care and support of the society for the elderly, establish closer ties and cooperation between the medical community and all sectors of society, and lay a solid foundation for the development of elderly health.
In the next free consultation session, Professor Zhan Yiyang, President of Palliative Medicine of the Chinese Geriatric Society, Professor Wu Jianqing, Professor Duan Yu and several members of the committee provided professional diagnosis and treatment services, health consultation and popular science materials for the elderly patients and their families. The experts patiently answered all kinds of questions about palliative care, and distributed a wealth of popular science materials to the participants to improve the public's health awareness and self-care ability.
