The Nutrition and Food Safety Branch of Chinese Geriatric Society ";Seminar on the Construction of Aging Food Industry and Nutritional Function Evaluation System"; was held in Chengdu on the evening of June 4, 2021. The construction of age-appropriate food industry and nutrition function evaluation system is one of the important tasks of the second five-year plan of the Nutrition and Food Safety Sub-Committee. It aims to carry out in-depth research on food nutrition function evaluation according to the Outline of "Healthy China 2030"; Plan, and explore how to steadily promote the construction of age-appropriate food industry with the learning platform. The establishment of a nutrition function evaluation system for aged foods will be implemented. This meeting is a continuation of the Expert Symposium held in Nanjing on December 19, 2020.


Professor Fan Li, President of the Chinese Geriatric Society and Director of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (PLA General Hospital); Professor Zhang Qiujian, Honorary Chairman of the Expert Committee of the Chinese Geriatric Society; Professor Zhang Zhiqiang, former Deputy Director of the Department of Food Safety Standards, Monitoring and Evaluation of the National Health Commission; Professor Li Youping, Tenured Professor of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Expert of WHO EML (Essential Medicine List) Review Panel and Policy Advisory Panel; Professor Zhang Heping, Director of Key Laboratory of Dairy Biotechnology and Engineering of Ministry of Education, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University; Professor Zhang Lishi, West China School of Public Health, Sichuan University; Cheng Zhi, Vice President of the Chinese Geriatric Society and director of the Scientific and Technological Achievements Transformation Committee, Professor Hu Wen, Vice president of the Chinese Geriatric Society and President of the Nutrition and Food Safety Branch, Vice president and director General of the branch attended the meeting.

According to the "Comprehensive survey and Development Trend Forecast Report on the status quo of China's elderly food Industry in 2021-2027" released by industry Research network, food accounts for the largest proportion of daily consumption of elderly people in China, but affected by physiological decline or disability, the elderly's appetite is generally poor, and the total amount of food tolerated by the digestive tract is limited. Ordinary diet and food are difficult to meet the nutritional needs of the elderly, while the elderly's expenditure on food is obviously out of line with its nutritional benefits, and the aging situation is becoming increasingly severe, and it is urgent to enrich the supply of appropriate food for the elderly.

The experts at the meeting put forward that the construction of the evaluation system of nutrition function of age-appropriate food must take the road of innovation, and first sort out the theoretical support and clarify the concept is the top priority; Secondly, the trust difference, cognitive difference, functional demand difference, product form preference, taste preference, etc. of the elderly should also be fully considered, which will directly affect the research and development and iteration of the aged food. Finally, we should give full play to the resources of the society, set up a team of experts on the evaluation of nutrition function of age-appropriate food, and set up a core team to build brands and expand influence during the second five-year plan of the branch.

The experts at this meeting reached a consensus on the target population of age-appropriate food, in order to meet the diversified needs of the elderly for nutrition and health and food culture, age-appropriate food is mainly for the aged over 65 years of health, frailty, semi-disabled, disabled and chronic disease and other different states of the elderly service, is suitable for the health needs of the elderly food products.

The Nutrition and Food Safety Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society will take this meeting as the number, take the elderly as the foundation, and start from the construction of the nutrition function evaluation system of age-appropriate food to enrich, catalyze and drive the supply of age-appropriate food; Supporting the promotion of education and training of community nutrition talents for the elderly, promoting and transforming the relevant group standards for the elderly nutrition; To effectively improve the nutrition and health level and quality of life of the elderly as the goal of guidance, and actively contribute to promote healthy aging.
