Distinguished Chairman Han, Chairman Shao, Distinguished Minister Gao, Distinguished Academician Chen, Academician Yu, and all the experts, scholars and editors present here hello.
It is my great pleasure to attend today's launch ceremony of the Blue Book on the Development of Healthy Aging in China: Research and Measures for Actively Responding to Population Aging (2022). In the in-depth development of China's aging today, the release of this book does have a great influence, it is not only practical value, but also a strong sense of The Times, and how to develop China's aging in the future, it is indeed a good guide.
Although I have not had time to read this book, I just listened to the detailed introduction of chief editor Wang Hongman, and I briefly read the general overview of the whole book, which makes me feel that this book does analyze the basic reality and characteristics of China's existing aging from many aspects, multiple angles and multiple levels, and from the macro and micro aspects, and puts forward some theoretical research and countermeasures on how we should actively deal with it. As a medical worker who has been engaged in geriatric medicine for more than 50 years, I feel very pleased. Especially today, I have listened to many senior leaders' views on healthy aging and active response to aging. I have benefited a lot from the strategic discussion, which is a very good learning opportunity. On behalf of the Chinese Geriatrics Society, I would like to express my sincere congratulations on the release of this book and also pay tribute to Wang Hongman's team for the high-quality completion of this book.
Talking about the positive aging concept, I am deeply touched. China's aging society is developing so fast, especially the elderly population over 80 years old in our country is now the largest in the world, more than 90 million people over 80 years old by 2050, but our disabled and mentally retarded elderly people have now exceeded 50 million. So we have to establish a positive and healthy view of aging, not passive and so on people are old, sick, stupid and paralyzed, you go to treatment, to tube, and finally painful death, this process no one wants to see, although aging is a natural development process, but we have to pass forward. Take the initiative to manage the whole life cycle, so that our elderly people are not passively waiting for illness and disability, relying on the state to take care of you, medical staff to manage you, social staff to help you, to take the initiative to maintain health, maintain the ability to self-reliance and self-care, to feel that you are valuable, can contribute to society and at the same time happy themselves.
Nowadays, many elderly families have empty nests, loneliness, depression, and mental illness hinder them. An old man told me: the children are not around, all day long is our old couple, four eyes staring at the ceiling, looking at the cold home. If I get sick and go to the hospital, my heart will be cold when I meet the sick and cold face of the medical staff. So this society has to be friendly and warm. I especially read the book "The Temperature of Medicine" written by Chairman Han, he said that medicine is human science, medicine is heavy temperature. Therefore, we are not limited to the temperature of medicine, the whole society should establish love, respect and treat the elderly, and the whole society should have temperature. The concept of active aging is not only a matter for the elderly, the whole society should know that healthy aging includes our national policy, politicians, doctors, scholars, social workers to do it, everyone must participate actively as a member, everyone brings light and heat to the society, and our society has temperature.
Especially for the elderly, some of the fears caused by loneliness, loneliness, fear of being left alone. Anxiety caused by psychological disorders, causing the disease to increase, this is a vicious cycle, this should be concerned. Without attention to mental health, our society has the support of strong medical institutions, better policies, and better advanced instruments, and it is useless. Psychological care is particularly important for geriatric diseases and the life course of the elderly. Therefore, the whole society should integrate into healthy aging, and the elderly should be self-reliant and self-reliant, and maintain their function to the maximum ability. Now the International Health Organization has taken function as a medical indicator to evaluate the health of the elderly, and function is very important, so we should carry out functional assessment and rehabilitation of the elderly. Therefore, the Chinese Geriatric Society gives full play to its professional advantages and integrates resources to carry out training in geriatric care, geriatric nutrition and geriatric rehabilitation across the country, and actively respond to the needs of health services in the aging society.
China's young people to enter the old society to serve them, China's aging also opened up a lot of employment space for young people, small hands pull old hands together to go forward, our sunset with the rising sun, so our sun to guard the sunset, this is called day and night together. It is necessary to cultivate these young people to know what is a healthy lifestyle and medical knowledge from an early age, volunteer to assume the responsibility of serving the elderly, integrate into the elderly collective and integrate into the society. The whole society is integrated, this temperature will come, our society will become better, I hope to see our old people can be happy, live to be happy, rather than sick and waiting to die, at the end of life is not any worry and fear, but peaceful, decent and dignified to finish their lives. Do not want to be old enough to end up with all kinds of tubes, suffering and painful death, which is a lot of old people worry about. The year before last, under the support and guidance of Chairman Han, our Beijing Living Will Promotion Association released a Blue Book on the Development of Palliative Care in China, which is very important to show the whole society that the development of palliative care in China should respect life, and death should be more human, more scientific, more rational and more peaceful. We at the Chinese Geriatric Society have been doing this work for many years. This is my wish and thought as a geriatrician.
