As well as long-term engaged in vertigo/vestibular medical related neurology, geriatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, rehabilitation, psychiatry and vertigo/vestibular basic and research related fields of well-known experts and scholars online to participate in the meeting.
Professor Fan Li, President of the Chinese Geriatric Society, delivered an online speech to congratulate the founding conference of the Vertigo/Vestibular Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society. She pointed out that comprehensive assessment of elderly patients and giving personalized and precise treatment play a very important role in elderly vertigo and vestibular disease. Therefore, identifying the etiology, preventing recurrence, reducing the suffering of patients and improving the quality of life are the important work goals of the vertigo/Vestibular Medicine branch. Professor Xu Xianhao, Honorary President of Beijing Hospital, delivered a congratulatory speech on the establishment of Vertigo/Vestibular Medicine Branch of Chinese Geriatric Society. He said that the incidence of vertigo disease is high, the etiology is complex, and it involves multi-disciplinary knowledge. With the rapid aging of the population, how to further promote the diagnosis and treatment norms of vertigo/vestibular diseases, basic research, discipline construction, continuing education and the development of public science is an important task at present. The establishment of the vertigo/Vestibular Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society has brought new opportunities for the development of our vertigo specialty. I believe that under the leadership of President Yang Xu, the branch will promote the standardized diagnosis and treatment of vertigo diseases in China and further expand our influence in the international vertigo/vestibular medicine field.
Professor Wang Zhaoxia, consultant of the Branch, Peking University First Hospital, delivered a speech and expressed warm congratulations on the establishment of the Vertigo/Vestibular Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society. She pointed out that studies have shown that with the increase of age, the compensatory ability of the elderly after vestibular function is impaired, the osteoarticular muscle system, proprioceptive function decline, the visual eye movement system aging, the ability to regulate blood pressure decline, white matter disease, cognitive function decline can affect the balance function of patients. If further studies on the correlation between eye movement, balance regulation and cognitive psychology can be carried out, it will be helpful to establish early diagnostic criteria for eye movement and postural regulation of degenerative diseases in the elderly population in China, as well as early intervention treatment and artificial intelligence development. She believes that the association will bring together multidisciplinary experts and multidisciplinary forces and will greatly promote the development of vertigo/vestibular medicine in our country.
International consultant Professor Kathleen Elizabeth Cullen from Johns Hopkins University in the United States and international consultant Professor Ji-Soo Kim from Seoul National University in South Korea expressed warm congratulations on the establishment of the Vertigo/Vestibule Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society through an online speech. It is believed that the establishment of the branch will be an important milestone in the development of vestibular medicine in China, and the branch will further carry out high-quality clinical and basic research on vertigo/vestibular diseases, so as to promote the rapid development of the profession and make more contributions to promoting healthy aging.
Finally, President Yang Xu said that all colleagues of the Vertigo/Vestibular Medicine Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society will earnestly study and implement the spirit of the National Conference on Aging work, under the leadership of President Fan Li and with the support of the association, integrate domestic resources in the field of vertigo, and establish a domestic first-class and internationally leading learning and exchange platform combining clinical and scientific research.
