Chinese Geriatric Society endocrinology and metabolism branch experts to carry out ";learn from Lei Feng" free diagnosis activities

On March 5, 2021, experts from the Endocrinology and Metabolism Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society and the Second Medical Center of the PLA General Hospital carried out a "Learn from Lei Feng" free clinic activity for veteran party members, veteran cadres, grass-roots officers and soldiers and their families. Most of the patients who participated in the free clinic were elderly elderly patients, and most of them were diabetic, accompanied by hypertension, coronary heart disease, hyperlipidemia and other comorbidities. Experts monitored random blood glucose on site, conducted diabetes health education for patients, enhanced blood glucose management awareness, and informed the risk of acute and chronic complications and long-term cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. The treatment plan should be adjusted on the spot according to the blood glucose situation, hypoglycemia risk, complications and complications, and patients should be advised to conduct comprehensive assessment regularly and adjust treatment in time. The free clinic has been widely praised by patients.

Diabetes is a worldwide public health problem, its incidence remains high. However, the elderly are at high risk of metabolic diseases such as diabetes. China's large-scale epidemiological survey showed that the prevalence of diabetes in people aged 60 and above was 20.2%, which was significantly higher than that in people under 40 (5.9%). Therefore, it is very important to pay attention to the comprehensive management of blood glucose, blood pressure, blood lipids and blood uric acid in elderly patients with diabetes.

The Endocrinology and Metabolism Branch of the Chinese Geriatric Society is composed of 222 members and 49 Standing Committee members from 25 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. The chapter focuses on the early prevention and treatment of clinical chronic metabolic diseases. Under the new situation of rapid aging and high incidence of chronic metabolic diseases in China, it is emphasized that optimizing the treatment standard of the elderly can improve the prognosis. The branch will continue to serve the majority of elderly patients and strive to contribute to healthy aging.
